This is in honor of 26/7 floods. I had written this at that time and am putting it up on my blog now.
Black pitch black!Dirty clothes and dirty shoes. Dirty floors and please what is that stink !!!!!!!!!On the faithful flooding nite my office looked like a war camp. We were the only business open that night and we had our reception area crowded with people. In the other parts housed our entire team. Not one person managed to go home that day ………not that we never tried. All those that ventured out came back soaking wet.Only Preeti and Debotri our receptionist who lived in the same area. Managed to make it home. But their tales on their journey home make for another story The ambience was pretty bleak I mean we were not in something you could call luxurious quarters. We kept our spirits but my telling ghost stories and jokes and any thing we could imagine. Our surroundings were muddy with rainwater and footprints and somebody had managed to buy some packets of biscuits from the surrounding stores. Luckily enough all of us had atleast one coversation with some member of our family to say that we were ok.We also said a small prayer for anyone who might be out there in the flood. Hundred blessings were counted at that time that we were safe indoors. But then the complaints started. Who would not prefer to sleep in their own beds? And as some of our colleagues had a session of antakshri some of us tried to sleep on the tables and joing to chairs into makeshift beds. One colleague cell battery had gone down and she refused to give up. She spent the night rubbing the cell between her hands because that’s the way someone had told her you can charge it. As morning dawned and the rain stopped we were apprehensive about making our way out of doors.Would it be safe? But as we saw a sea of people making their way home we took the risk.Considering everything we did not have too bad a time walking home. I know my colleagues had to walk really far but atleast we had to contend with just waist deep water. And I was happy cause I reached home pretty fast. But I was feeling bad about our house-keeping guy. His house had been ruined by the water and yet he had our mess at the office to clean up. It’s the poor who get affected everytime. Yes its black pitch black!
